Brew on Premises comes to NM ---------------------------- Bryan L Bennett While doing some shopping along Nob Hill I saw a radio station van in front of a building labeled Kelly's Custom Brewery and Restaurant. Unable to resist the thought of another brew pub in the Duke City I went in. What I found was not a brewery, but a store with one half being a restaurant and the other half on the main room lined with several 15 gallon copper vats, a wall cooler full of hops, bins of grains, and a 30 gallon or so barrel of light malt extract. I had wandered into the grand opening for what I believe is the first brew-on-premises establishment in New Mexico. I spoke for a while with David Blackwell, the man in charge of helping people create their brews using Kelly's equipment and ingredients. He said that he'd been a home brewer for several years and seemed to know his stuff, which is good if he's going to be guiding people through their first batches of homebrew. They were stocked with an amazing variety of hops, all in pellet form, and a large selection of crystal malts and specialty grains. If you should want to stop by, they are located at 3200 Central SE, almost directly across from Il Vicino. I think that it's great to have a business of this sort in the region. One more way to introduce people to the art of homebrewing. I wish them all the luck in the world.
