Santa Fe Brewpub Update ----------------------- Sandy James Having been to all three of the new Santa Fe brewpubs in the last week, I thought I'd give you an update. All three are evolving rapidly. Blue Corn Cafe and Brewery - opened this last week. Laure Pomianowski has done a very nice job with the brews. The pale ale was my favorite but you should definitely check them all out. The advance taste I got of the porter was very promising and it should be on tap by now. Her rootbeer is also very good. Growlers aren't available yet but should be soon. The menu is not quite the same as the Blue Corn Cafe downtown but seems to follow the same high standard. Wolf Canyon - food is still great. They now have a winter special brew that is a nice black cherry ale. It is fairly sweet but has good body, I managed to down 2 pints of it while listening to the SFe Great Big Jazz Band (who will be playing there again on Monday 2/10, 8:30-10:30pm). Second Street Brewery - this has become THE popular place to hang out in Santa Fe. It is impossible to go there without seeing someone you know. This makes for lots of table hopping, hugging and air-kissing. Unfortunately, this also makes for a crowded cozy environment and VERY slow service. The new IPA came on tap and ran out before I even got to try it! Something is wrong with this picture. The new brown ale was tasty but I still prefer the ESB. The food is good hearty fare, I have heard the Rueben is to die for. Unfortunately, they were out of corned beef last Thursday. Go early, be patient and expect a wait. Look on the bright side, you'll probably see someone you know to chat with while waiting.
