Just what IS a Kohlfahrt? Exert from http://www.armin-grewe.com/holiday/kohlfahrt/kohlfahrt.htm
: "So you've been invited to a Kohlfahrt. What happens
on it? Kohlfahrten mostly happen over the weekend, usually on a Saturday
afternoon. You meet some time early afternoon, say around 2pm.The organiser
has a "Bollerwagen" (hand-cart) full with everything you need
for the next few hours: Some Kohl (the green stuff you see on the picture),
something to eat and most importantly lots to drink. "Saurer"
and "Plum", both a type of schnapps popular during these events.
You have a drink at every (well, may be not every) corner, bridge or
other opportunity. Well prepared you head off for a walk which will
last a few hours... Getting ready for the journey... (All pics from our '99 Kohlfahrt)
One of the many games played during the walk. The losers, of course, don't get that round of drink.
The walk should always end with a banquet of tasty food. Usually around 6pm or 7pm you arrive at your destination: A house serving "Kohl und Pinkel".
