Iron Brewer Competition Results (06-10-2007)
BUZZ members picked up second runnings
from Iron Hill's Golden Barleywine in January and from there they did some
amazing things! These beers were then judged by the brewers from
Iron Hill for the 2nd Annual Iron Brewer Competition.
Congratulations to John Reagan for his N. German Altbier. A very
close second and third went to Jared Spidel for his Belgian Specialty and
Russ Hobaugh for his Schwarzbier. John won a beer
dinner from Iron Hill to be made with a selection of entries!

celebrate Big Brew along with the American

Febrewary Meeting Dedicated to Meads (02-08-2007)
Ever wonder how to make a mead? How about
telling if the one you made is any good? Here is your chance.
Dave Houseman will be giving a presentation that will help answer all your
mead questions (and if you are a BJCP judge, you'll get CEP
credit!). So bring all the meads in your basement for so fun and
evaluation!
War of the Worts XII at Iron
Hill Brewery in North Wales! (02-08-2007)
Drop off deadline is Sat. Feb. 10th. Help
support one of our local clubs by entering, judging and stewarding!
2006
BUZZ Holiday Dinner and Meeting (11-28-2006)
Our BUZZ Holiday Dinner will be on Monday, December
18th, at 6 PM. We reserved the back bar area of Iron Hill in West
Chester. All BUZZ members are welcome, please keep in mind that
seating may be limited and we view this as an extension of our club
meeting and not just a social event.
The regular meeting will start approximately at 7:30 pm
or so, after everyone is finished eating. You may attend the meeting
even if you are not attending the dinner. Please try to arrive
promptly at 6PM if you are attending the dinner so we can place our
orders.
BUZZ funds will cover some portion of the bill (last
year we covered the tip/gratuity). If you plan
on attending the dinner, please let Paul McGinnis know
(paulbrew77<at>yahoo.com) ASAP.
2006 Great Brews
of America Competition Results! (11-28-2006)
Congratulations to Chris Clair, Dave Houseman, Ron
Daubel and the BUZZ Bourbon Barrel Brewers on their ribbons at the Split
Rock Competition! The Bourbon Barrel Barleywine was the Best of Show
runner up!
2006 Great Brews
of America Competition Nov. 18th! (10-11-2006)
Also know as "Split Rock" by the club
(since that is where it is at), all proceeds benefit the Make a Wish
Foundation so please enter! Dave Houseman will carry BUZZ entries up
so make arrangements with him to drop off. Entry forms and payment
must be sent in ahead of time. Details maybe found here.
HOPS BOPS Postponed until 2007! (10-11-2006)
I guess that actually means it is canceled, but unfortunately
you'll have to wait until next year to enter.
Valhalla - The Meading of
Life (08-27-2006)
Got Mead? Prepare to enter the Second Annual
Valhalla - The Meading of Life mead-only competition, October 14, 2007, at
the Iron Hill Restaurant and Brewery in West Chester, PA. All mead styles
from the BJCP 2004 Style Guidelines will be judged. Entries are due by
October 7th. Drop off locations locally at Home Sweet Homebrew, Keystone
Homebrew Supply, Iron Hill West Chester, Brew Your Own Beer-Winemaking
Too!, and Wine, Barley & Hops Homebrew Supply. Additional information
can be found at www.valhalla-mead.com,

about this competition.

BUZZ Oktoberfest on Sept. 23rd! (08-27-2006)
Time once again for the BUZZ Oktoberfest
party! Dave Houseman and family will again host us on Saturday,
Sept. 23rd starting at 2pm (dinner around 5pm). See the Oktoberfest

HOPS BOPS on Oct. 21st! (08-27-2006)
Get those entries ready! HOPS BOPS will be
held on Oct. 21st at Nodding Head in Philadelphia. More details will
follow.

For those BUZZ member who picked up second runnings
from Iron Hill's Golden Barleywine in January, a date has finally been set
for the competition. It will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd.
Entries will be collected at the next BUZZ meeting (May 15). Any

Eastern
Regional AHA Nationals
(03/06/2006)
This year the Eastern Regional will be held in
Philadelphia, at the HRIM Academic Bistro of Drexel University on Friday
night and Saturday, April 28th and 29th. All BJCP judges are welcome.
Friday judging, for those that are local or wish to come
in the night before, will commence at 7:00pm. Pizza and beer will be
available from 6:15 until 7:00. Saturday
judging will commence at 9:00am and proceed with up to three sessions of
judging. Lunch will be served as well as a beer and hors d'oeuvre
reception just after judging. The Reception will also be a BYO affair, so
feel free to bring your own homebrew to share but we'll have plenty of
other beer there as well. For those that can stay around, there will be a
hosted pub crawl by the knowledgeable George Hummel from Home Sweet
Homebrew and Mid-Atlantic Brewing News.

2nd Annual Best the Brewer
(03/06/2006)
The 2nd annual Best the Brewer amateur/professional
homebrew competition is looking for entrants and judges. This year submit
beers brewed after November 2005 in these general categories: Pale ale,
IPA, Brown Ale, Porter, Stout, Wheat, Spiced/vegetal/Specialty
Professional brewers that have agreed to homebrew as of
1/1/2006 come from Yards, Manayunk Brewery, Flying Fish, and Iron Hill.
Prizes will be awarded for the winner of each of the 7 categories. Best of
Show Beers (up to 3) that are from homebrewers, not professionals, will be
brewed with the homebrewer at Manayunk Brewery and served at the
restaurant.
Two 12 ounce bottles should be submitted by Thursday
March 16th using the appropriate AHA submission form accompanied by a $5
entry fee payable to Tim Ackerson. Drop-off points for the competition are
Home Sweet Homebrew, Keystone
Homebrew and the Manayunk
Restaurant and Brewery. Entrants can also be sent to Tim Ackerson, 101
W. Nippon St., Philadelphia, PA 19119.
There will also be a beer dinner along with the awards
at the Manayunk Restaurant and

2006 BUZZ Off will be June 3rd (12/30/2005)
Once again we are happy to announce that the annual
BUZZ Off homebrew competition will be held at Iron Hill Brewery &
Restaurant in West Chester, PA. The date will be June 3rd.
More details to follow but if you are interested in helping, please
contact Chris Clair (buzzclub@verizon.net).
MCAB Correction (12/26/2005)
While compiling the MCAB qualifiers for submission,
2 errors were found. The qualifiers for India Pale Ales and Belgian
Strong Ales are actually Leo Chmil Jr. and Ted Johnston. We apologize
for the confusion.
BUZZ Holiday Dinner (11-27-2005)

of America competition at Split Rock! Dave Houseman also took best

Valhalla - The Meading of Life (09-14-2005)
Correction: Only 2 bottles are need per entry.
If you've got mead, prepare to enter the 1st annual
Valhalla - The Meading of Life Mead-Only Competition to be held Sat., Oct.
15 at the Mt. Pleasant Café in Philadelphia (http://www.mtpleasantcafe.com/).
This competition will judge meads in BJCP categories 24--traditional
meads, 25--melomel and 26--other mead. One entry per subcategory per
entrant, with a $5 per entry fee. The equivalent of at least 2 12-ounce
bottles is required for judging, although bottle size and shape are not
restricted.
Meads may be mailed or dropped off at Home Sweet
Homebrew by Friday, October 7th. Additional local drop off locations
include Keystone Homebrew locations and Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant
in West Chester, PA.
The judging will take place from 9am to 1pm. Awards will
be given out beginning at 1:30. There will also be a tasting with numerous
commercial meads as well as the remainder of the meads from the
competition following the judging. Following the competition there will be
2 seatings for a Medieval dinner at 4 and 6:30 pm, reservations required;
call the restaurant at 215-242-1500 to make your reservations.

Takes 2nd at AHA Club Only Competiton! (04-21-2005)
Congratulations to Joe Lynn for taking second at the
“In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lambic” Sour Ale Competition
with his Raspberry Lambic. The competition was held
April 17, 2005, hosted by the NYC Homebrewers Guild
of NY. Way to go Joe!
