1. Where do you live?
Coatesville, PA

2. What is your "brewery" name?
Don't officially have one. I write "So Called" brewery on my BJCP sheets.
Got the idea from a conversation Ron Daubel and I had at Victory on night. He was telling me about how he brewed a "so called" something or other, (made the little finger motions in the air, etc) and I kind of liked that named. So my BJCP entries are usually "So Called" IPA, etc.

3. Year you started brewing
Memorial Day, 1997. Brewed 2 batches on my first day. One was a Bohemian
Pilsener that turned out redder than Killian's, and the other was Canadian Ale that was also nothing close to the style it was supposed to be. But I made beer!!

4. Are you BJCP certified?
Yes, Certified. (Though certifiable is more like it)

5. Favorite, most knowledgeable styles
My moods switch from season to season - I like all kinds of different beers.
I'll go on an English beer kick, then a German beer kick, then an American beer kick, then back to English...

But I probably like English styles the best - English Pale Ale, Bitter, ESB, etc. I also like hoppy styles - APA, ABA, IPA, IMP IPA. I wonder if 200 IBU is achievable?

For wine, I love big, tannic, reds - Syrah, Shiraz.

I'm not too fond of Belgians anymore, and I guess I just don't "get" mead.

6. Most Interesting Batch Made
I'm not too adventurous, limited stuff here. I made a Gruit Ale once,
"interesting" but not too great. The judges wrote on my score sheet that it tasted like "some kind of cleaning product."

7. Greatest Brewing Moment
Bought and ran a homebrew shop for 3 1/2 years. Wonderful experience, but
all thing considered, knowing what I know now, I wouldn't do it again.

8. Worst Brewing Moment
There was the time I sat in an English Pub, in London, with a row of
hand pumps less than 3 feet away. I was a sailor on shore leave with my buddies. We were totally playing the "ugly Americans". The bartender tried hard to get us to try the English Ale. But no, we didn't want that "warm English stuff." We wanted lager.

So we sat in a pub in London drinking French lager, Kronenborg, I think, from gold cans. CANS. With who know what on tap, on hand pumps, right there. IF I ONLY KNEW THEN WHAT I NOW NOW! Wish I had a "do over" on that one!

9. Words to live by
"Try Not, Do - or do not. There is no try."
- Jedi Master Yoda

10. Something "non-brewing"
- I served in the US Navy for 6 years, and spent 4 years on an aircraft
carrier, USS Independence, CV-62, now decommissioned. I held a secret security clearance and worked in the carrier intelligence center. On various cruises, my ship stopped in England, Spain, Italy, Israel, Turkey, Singapore, and The US Virgin Islands. I visited all those places. I also crossed the Article circle (bluenose). We were only 65 miles from the equator at one point, but they wouldn't let us go across (so I am not a shellback). My ship also saw action in Grenada, and I am eligible to join VFW from that.

- I also like to make cheesecake, bread, and ice cream. (not all together, though.)

- Who has time for other hobbies?? ;)
