Meeting Location
CARBOY’s monthly meetings are currently held at the BB&Y Restaurant. BB&Y is located on the first floor of the Caswell Building at 3700 National Drive, in the Koger Center off Glenwood Avenue in West Raleigh. Owner Nick Jones allows CARBOY to meet monthly at his restaurant when we don’t have picnics or field trips scheduled. BB&Y is open for lunch each week-day. We encourage members to visit BB&Y for a relaxed informal meal. Please let Nick now you’re from CARBOY when you visit his restaurant.

January 2005 Meeting Minutes

A very high attendance at the January meeting with a few new faces.  The crowd was reported to be 35 people strong.  We welcome all the new faces and hope they will continue to be a part of the club.

The upcoming Shamrock Open on March 12 was discussed.  Things are progressing nicely under the organization of Jim Brewer.  The competition is already listed on the AHA site and the BJCP site and should be in the next Zymurgy.  If anyone wishes to participate they can visit the site and contact the appropriate person http://hbd.org/carboy/shamrock.htm, also if anyone has raffle items please contact both Dave Buning and Mike Weiss.  A call for judges will be sent out soon.

The club discussed a CARBOY member private CBC tour http://www.carolinabrew.com/. CBC had offered two potential dates. We decided on Friday, 3/18 and the time has been confirmed since the meeting to be 6:00 PM. Meet at the brewery. Take a beer (if you want) to share with Joe/John/Greg.  If you need directions, visit the CBC site.  The brewery is located in Holly Springs, NC.

Sean Lilly Wilson the President of Pop The Cap was at the meeting to thank us for our contribution and give us a status on the PTC effort. He said that there was a good possibility of getting things passed by this Summer, and if we didn't get it passed this legislative session it might be another 2 years before the law might be changed. He suggested we look for things that we can help with (e.g., legislators tasting).

Jim Brewer gave a brief education session on basics of judging beers.  Additional information may be sent out on the email notice.

(Special thanks to Dave Buning and Mike Weiss for their assistance with this newsletter)

We then went into "TELL US ABOUT THIS BEER"!

Once again Steve Murphrey came through with the CARBOY Superbowl Party.  At press time we did not have the details, but if we had we probably would have not published them anyway since what happens at a Party stays at the Party.
