Meeting Location
CARBOY’s monthly meetings are currently held at the BB&Y Restaurant. BB&Y is located on the first floor of the Caswell Building at 3700 National Drive, in the Koger Center off Glenwood Avenue in West Raleigh. Owner Nick Jones allows CARBOY to meet monthly at his restaurant when we don’t have picnics or field trips scheduled. BB&Y is open for lunch each week-day. We encourage members to visit BB&Y for a relaxed informal meal. Please let Nick now you’re from CARBOY when you visit his restaurant.

March 2005 Meeting Minutes

Attendance was a bit smaller at the March meeting.  However, we welcome all the new faces and new members and spent some time introducing everyone.

The Shamrock Open was a complete success.  Everyone was thanked for their participation and reminded that we are truly in the running for Carolina Club of the Year with our wins thus far.

The club discussed the CARBOY member private CBC tour that was on March 18.  It was a great success with about 40 people in attendance.

The Pop The Cap buzz at the meeting was that the bill was introduced on February 28 as HB 392 http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2005&BillID=H392

Also the Senate has a similar bill S735 introduced by the Head of the Senate.

A quick reminder that anyone interested in becoming and officer should be ready for the election in June.  If you want to run, just let any officer know.  Some of the officers expressed that they will not run again next year for an office in a effort to get some of the newer members involved and to gain new input.

National Homebrew Day big brew was briefly discussed.  Edenton has been approached, but it probably will not occur until later in the year.  The club will be continually updated as things progress.  The suggested beer would be a Sticke Alt.

The US Open homebrewing competition was discussed and everyone was encouraged to enter as many beers as possible into the competition.

We then went into "TELL US ABOUT THIS BEER"!

The ongoing Boycott of Mutual Distributing

It turns out that Mutual Distibuting Company has decided to use a lobbyist to work toward changing and potentially defeating HB392.  Make up your own mind whether or not to support a boycott of any beer, wine, and soft drink distributed by Mutual.

If you want to let Mutual know how you feel about their postion, please visit www.beerinator.com and follow the links presented there or visit http://www.beeradvocate.com/forum/list.php?group_id=20 and follow the links presented there.  Please let all businesses know you support HB392 and that you do not agree with Mutual’s postion and if you are in agreement with the boycott that you will not be purchasing those Mutual products.

The owner is Mr. William Kennedy and his direct line is 919-828-3842 ext 1125.  Please note that Mutual is partially owned by Representatvive Leo Daughtry http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/gascripts/members/viewMember.pl?sChamber=House&nUserID=26 and it is the lobbyist from Mutual that is causing issues within the General Assembly.

(As your newsletter editor I should point out that CARBOY as an organization has not publicly decided to support a boycott but may do so in the future.)
