My Grandfather mentioned a brew that he and his friends enjoyed while stationed in Hawaii in 1940's. Not entirely sure what the name was but thinks it was something like Black Hawk Ale, said it was very thick and rich, and remembers a high gravity - guessing 10%+ (Said, "Two bottles would do it for a fellow.") Don't know if it helps, but he mentioned that it was pretty much all that was available - would guess that would be at the base and not necessarily in town... When I got home today I searched and found a Black Hawk Stout from Mendocino Brewing Co, but it is a lower abv @ 5%, and they didn't come into business until the 1980s. Anybody have any information on this brew? |
