That is a damn good price for vanilla beans - I think I paid $7 for the last bean I bought.

$7 for 1 bean?!? Better be a big bean, eh!

Why not just use really good vanilla extract, which is made from really good vanilla beans...

Because it is cool to look at my 2.5 gallon glass carboy with a couple of cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans floting around in some mead. Looks nice in the the dining room, with that squiggly airlock.

Chumster, SWMBO does not care for such atrocities in the dining or living room, squiggly or otherwise, alas... Perhaps I could say it's better than the stupid air fresheners eh?!

Got some beans for the heck of it; good spot Okie wan Kanobie... :-)

BTW, if anybody's gonna use the version of the recipe he's posted, it's wrong...should be 1.25 lb. of chocolate, not .5.

Actually, when he started selling the beans, the recipe was there but uncredited. After several people emailed him about it, he sent me a nice email apologizing and credited me with the recipe....some would say, blaming me for the recipe!

Denny - Drink three barleywines in one sitting, never.

I bottle my barleywine in 22oz bombers. Three would be a good night!!!

Denny - Do you also add your beans to the secondary "fomenter" as the seller suggests? I think many people are mistakenly adding them to their secondary fermenters.
