It appears I may need to replace the plunger shaft seat o-rings in those 3 brass faucets I've been cleaning up. Are they some sort of a specialty contoured design? Or maybe it's just been pinched so long it looks contoured. I notice B3 sells 'em for 90¢ apiece, but I only need three of the lousy things. Is there something I can get at Slowe's that will work? |

Hmmm . . . Apparently I'm the only one who's ever needed to replace the rings! WHERE'S PAUL MUTH WHEN YOU NEED HIM! Well, If I can't find something at Slowe's or Home Disappointment, I might try some gum wads. |

I've never replaced those washers/o-rings, either, but I noticed that Superior Products carries the parts...might be another source~ |

You Rang? Which faucet are you dealing with? I know... Brass.. Forward seal? Standard? Whose? A pix or 2 would help. (Message edited by pjmuth on December 19, 2007) |

Wow, that was fast! What I have is just the old, standard garden variety faucet. Here is the B3 link of the exploded view, though they don't show the plunger. Look at the D1200E gasket. It is the plunger sealing gasket that closes the flow. http://morebeer.com/view_product/16215/102245 I'm Scrooge like when it comes to shipping . . I guess I could order $60 worth of supplies to get $2.70 worth of O-rings! Thanks Connie, I'll look over there too. |

Hack, do you have a LHBS nearby that is close enough to save the shipping costs? I'm pretty sure ours carries those kinds of piece parts, I would think any one that's bigger than a hole in the wall would.... |

In situations like this I normally take out said washer or o-ring and go to a local plumbers supply shop. Not Slowes or Depot, go to a shop that the plumbers frequent. |

Paul's on to something. You might be able to cross it with a faucet washer at a plumbing supply. At least you'd get someone there that would know or not. |

I bought an antique faucet once and took it to the local hardware store to replace the rubber. The lady there had no problem with the back seal or the handle seal. Simple "O" rings did the trick. But the poppet had this crusty thing on it that had long ago lost its form. She said that two bath faucets seals, back to back, might work. They did just fine! |

David, That's item # 4324 @ Micro-Matic Faucet Shaft Seat Washer They are 45 cents a copy. The faucet is this one (I think) Standard Faucet - Polished Brass - Brass Lever When you get to that page click on the "Replacement parts" tab. Anyway, all of the standard faucets use the same seal. You might get lucky and be able to find a standard beveled household sink faucet washer that will work at the local hardware/plumbing store. Regarding shipping. Their standard is UPS. I'd suggest that you call them when you get to the order/shipping point and request USPS shipping. It will be far less that way. HTH |

DH, are you in a dry county? I recall that some years ago I was visiting in western TN, and the local hardware sold something else behind the counter as well. |

Hey thanks Paul, that's the one! BP. . The county I live in sells beer only . . No wine and definitely no spirits. Have to drive to the adjacent county to get liquor, 'bout 20 miles. I'm not aware of a lot of bootleggin' in my immediate area, though I'm sure it's around. The chiropractor I go to however, told me there is a fellow he knows that makes a run to the mid state area on a fairly frequent basis and brings back a truckload of plastic 5 gallon gas cans full of something . . and I don't think we're talkin' Weed Eater fuel! |

I'm sure that's what the Tennessee hardware store was selling when I was there (this was in the 1970s): Weed Eater fuel. They sure got some powerful weeds around there. |

Back in '77 I was the "Liquor Chairman" for the Danville, Kentucky JCs. It was my job to drive to Richmond or Lexington to buy beer for the meetings. I would sell beer to anybody who was a JC up to and including the county prosecutor. They gave me an award for it. |

dhacker, I frequently order from Rapids. 1800-472-7431. www.rapidswholesale.com. You are no scrooge to hate to pay shipping on a washer. Plain stupid. They have on occasion stuck small stuff in an envelope and spared me some shipping. May not help, but sometimes they are helpful. |

Thanks Joel . . one more option if needed. I tried one place today that I thought might have them, but struck out. They had a beveled washer that was real close, but the hole was too small and the body a little too thick. I shall carry on. |

What? Are you suggesting I make it easy on myself and abbandon the hunt!? Where's the fun in that? Seriously . . If I don't find it today in Jackson, I'll have no choice but to order them. |

yeah Joel, I do our family grocery shopping and usually do a circuit of three to four grocery stores.. shopping the local grocery adds/coupons. Lately I've started doing the math with gas prices being where they are ($2.72 at one station today)
