Greetings, Beerlings! Take me to your lager... Our ISP is once again pushing a deal on T1 service. Though not as important to our email subscribers, this will greatly increase the availablilty of the HBD and Brews and Views websites for our web users. The monthly charge is $379 compared to our current $195. Commitment deadline is 31 May against a 3 year contract. If the HBD can raise the first year's service fee ($4558) before the commitment deadline, I will risk the remaining 2 years and commit. (If someone is out there wishing to sponsor the HBD, now's the time to step forward! In fact, I will work with a sponsor who wishes to commit to the full three year period with the ability to advertise on the HBD domain beyond the current header ads. It's gotten to the point where the HBD's current funding model is no longer sufficient.) Aside from this, the HBD lays claim, at this moment, to $474.24 with $2925.45 left against the current contract, not including any other expenses. Soon, we will go to the cupboard and find it dry... Indeed, thank you and everyone that help make this board run (Bill P. et. al.). HBD is an incredible source of knowledge. BTW, a check is in the mail - really! |

This forum is in the last stages of death. You can keep injecting it with some new members, but the cancerous tumors known as skotrat and his filthy rats have destroyed the living tissues of knowledge. Combine that with the rigid Catholic school mentality of the forum's organizers and you have the perfect end....with last rites included. Beg on, Babcock. The knowledge I have gained here in the past few months isn't worth a dime. |

Dick, you're more than entitled to your opinion, but your personal attacks are tiresome and part (some would say even a cause) of the problem rather than a solution. I really don't know what it is that you're seeking. The number of posts is indeed down, but the level of civility has been rather high lately. If we have to choose between reduced activity and a donnybrook (and I'm not sure these are the only options), I confess I'd opt for fewer but more civil posts. |

Since I just made a donation in December, I was going to take a pass this time. But sending a check is the best way I know to answer Dick's post. I'll drop it in the mail tomorrow. Thanks again, Pat, for everything. |

PAYPAL payment has been sent. I've learned too much information from this site to see it go away. Now, if I could only apply everything I've learned in a perfect manner. |

Don't know how much it will come to, but BJCP exam graders have been donating their whopping 50 cents per exam to the fund. |

Yes, you have the right address, Leonard. Every dollar helps in its own way. And once again I will mention that the HBD is registered as a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational organization, so donations are tax deductible for those who itemize. |

Thanks, folks! I'm not sure that we'll achieve the T1 line, but the added funding will ensure, in any case, that I don't suddenly end up without the means to continue it as is (but I'd guarantee the T1 would eliminate the #1 complaint regarding B&V: response time - Sorry, DTB: the rats and my Catholic upbringing are issues 546 and, I think, 1,000,256,338). If it were solely up to me, I'd have jumped on the T1 already, but my family has needs too, and I simply cannot commit that much of my personal budget. Pat Babcock HBD Chief of Janitorial Services

Thanks to all who have come forward to the aid of the HBD. In only 10 days, we've managed to raise over $1300 toward the goal of $4558 (first year of T1 service; alternatively, to goal of covering the current contract expense of $2925). It was great to see many of the same who come forward each time the HBD is in need, and it was also gratifying to see several new names as well. There remains only three days before the discounted T1 offer expires - and that's maybe for the best. I am researching other modes of faster local hosting but expect that I will have to bow to economic forces and "offshore" the HBD as many have suggested I do. Hopefully our volunteer codeslinger Anton will have rendered the HBD scripts portable by the end of this contract's term - T minus 15 months and counting...
