Just thought i'd let it be known that this is not spam...I wish I could develop software...I just thought iPhone users might find this stuff useful. |

I was wondering when someone would develop brewing software apps for the iPhone. Not that I have one, mind you; I'm still relatively old school about these things. |

Heey, thanks, BSB! They work fine with iPod Touch as well. I'll have to run them through some tests to see how they stack up against the pen-and-paper calculations I'm used to |

Kent Place Software is the company that sells BeerAlchemy, a very good brewing app for the Mac. I'll hazard a guess that the calc's they've implemented in BrewMath are identical to those in BeerAlchemy. I've compared BeerAlchemy against ProMash, and they are pretty much dead on in the calc's dept. BeerAlchemy has a "slicker" interface, tho. I don't have either an iPod Touch or an iPhone. I barely have a cell phone (TracFone). I'm about as old school as Bill. |

I use Beer Alchemy as well. The iPhone stuff is handy as you don't need to lug your puter around. |

The iPhone/iTouch Safari browser is one of the strongest of the hand-held devices right now and crawls through web sites that most handhelds just die. (Our acid test is a major commercial learning management systems) So I often just tap into one of the online sites for calculations or recipes. It would be interesting to see if Andrew Avis's new Java-based Strangebrew will work on handhelds with embedded Java by launching from a web page. I hear the new Blackberry Bold has a good browser also. |

I'd kind of ignored this thread since I don't have an iPhone. (I, too, have a fairly retro phone, and I don't even use most of the stuff it has.) But my daughter has an iPod Touch, and she came to me yesterday to show me this: http://www.hottrixdownload.com/secure/iBeer/iBeer.html It's not cool enough to make me buy an iPhone, but it's pretty cool. |

Paul, it's something of a milestone when your daughter thinks enough of you to find an iPhone brewing app and bring it to your attention. My wife's girls are 16 and they still think I'm the world's biggest geek. For example, I mentioned to them that what they were studying in chemistry class last week has real application, such as my finding online the solubility of nitrogen expressed in moles per liter and having to convert it to milligrams. They just rolled their eyes like I'm an absolutely lost cause, and these girls are very bright and good students, not typical teens at all in most ways. |
