Hey guys, I know we have some regulars here who have spent and continue to spend considerable time in Germany. I may be going over in about a month to visit some friends in the Stuttgart area. Baden-Württemberg isn't the beer-state that Bavaria is, but does anybody have any must-sees in the Stuttgart area? I've been there before, but it was before I underwent the divine transformation to Beer Geek.

An all tettnanger pils

Graham, this is my favaorite pils from the Stuttgart area. It's hopped with tettinger hops from the tettnanger region of Baden-W├╝rttemburg.

Also if you are into cars remember that the car and motorcycle were invented in Stuttgart so you might want to visit the Porsche and/or the Mercedes-Benz museum.

If you make it to the Frankfurt area give me a shout and we could have a beer or two.

Let me know if you need anything translated.

Alpirsbacher is in the Schwarzwald, and I enjoyed those beers.

The Porsche and MB museums are very good. The MB museum has gone to a new building since I was there, and would be even better today.

When we went to the MB museum, the Gottlieb Diamler Patentwagon was just through the doors. Later we heard a hit and miss engine fire up, and it turns out they had started it for a large German tour group. It had been totally restored for the 100th anniversery of the auto, and was in running condition. It may be like grandpa's axe, on the 3rd handle and second head, but it is the original.

Interesting, I didn't realize that Dinkelacker was still around. I drank plenty of it while I was stationed over there, as it was available at the exchange. Is the dark still around? That stuff used to be the "darkest" beer that I would actually drink.

Jeff,

That's how I discovered Meister-Pils, from Dinkelacker. I used to go bowling on an American base close by and this is the German beer the American services were offering it's soldiers. I thought it was just a gimmick with the swing tops and all but the beer turned out to be really good.

FWIW, I think the Dinkelacker pils that we have here is my favorite German pils.
