Wanted to say Hello to everyone! I'm new here and although I have limited experience (2+ years extract and 1+ all grain) I hope to help anyway I can. I've been reviewing post here for at leat 2 months and appreciate the laid back attitude of this forum. Hopefully I can help you all as much as I've been helped. Thanks again for having me aboard! |

Hey Josh, glad you are here. There are pretty many beer boards on the web but I always tend to post the important questions on this forum! |

The relaxed and helpful tone here sets it apart from just about any other board I have come across, like fishing, hunting, tech, even cooking and gardening, they all seem to have bullies. Not that we have not had the occasional jerk here, they just don't last very long, thankfully. |

Dan, no direct family in the Cincy area, but I am sure we are related if you go back far enough. I live in Columbus now but grew up in Celina, OH. Due to the small cities and villages around where I grew up the people would be "implants." You know, people who decided to move from the bigger immigrant cities. Oddly enough I dated a girl from Milford, OH while in college. And, for about 5 years after college I had season tickets to the Reds... which I gave up due to the interesting seasons they have had since 1990. |

Welcome Josh. If you start using large fans to cool your wort we'll know for sure you're related to Dan |

Next time you are in Cincy, check out Vogel Rd. in Colerain Township. It is named after my family's Vogels. I had an interesting conversation with my grandmother regarding her mother's name. Grandma was born in 1905. At that time, German was a very common language around here. She learned to speak it, but was never educated in reading or writing it. I happened to mention that Vogel was bird in German. In German "v" is pronounced very much like "f." She knew that "fogel" was German for bird, but never related it to her mother's family's name. |

You mean named after OUR family No, thats pretty cool! As far as the name, I got flipped the "bird" in HS a couple times while people said my name... those led to some "arguments." Didn't take much time after that to realize doing that wasn't so humorous. Checking out your store online. Next time I make it to Cincy (on pleasure, usually there on business) I will try to stop in. Looks like your right off 71? BTW I know some of my family has done family trees and the like. I will have to contact some and ask where we end up in Cincy. Now, I do remember when I was about 10 y/o we got a flyer for a Vogel family reunion, and I mean a REUNION. It included at least 3,000 people from the state of Ohio alone. |

My wife is deep into genealogy. If you are related, she can work it out. Do you know your great-grandfather Vogel's first name? |

Hi Josh, although the traffic may be lower here, the level of discourse tends to be a lot better than other brewing boards. Welcome! |

Thanks everyone for a warm welcome. I will say that this is the most "technical" place I have been to. Some post, especially by Bill leave me scratching my head (even after I googled all the terms I didn't know!) My great grandfathers name was Jacob Vogel. My grandfather's name is Harold Vogel. My grandfather grew up in Fort Recovery, OH. Would be cool if I came here an met a distant relative! |

We have a Jacob Vogel born in 1856, but we don't know how he is related. My Great-great-grandfather Joseph Vogel was born ten years earlier. Do you know the name of your great great grandfather? |

Now, from my recollection my great great grandfather's name was Heinrich. Beyond that I have NO idea!} |
