A friend of mine was just tagged in a whole load of pics on Facebook, pics of his team at RAGBRAI this year. Did any of you RAGBRAI riders run into "Team B3"? In particular, a guy named Mike Lengle? |

Paul, I've been on 31 RAGBRAIs, including this year's ride that just finished last Saturday. I can't say that I saw anyone from "Team B3," although there are hundreds of "teams" and somewhere around 12,000 riders. The ride has become tribal in terms of the social groups that have formed. Our own group (Team Sprint, dating from 1976) was one of the very first of these, so I suppose I can say I was nearly part of its origins (my first year was in 1978). The social networking that propagated online is not the original example of this phenomenon. RAGBRAI this year was mostly cool (on two days it never got out of the 60s F) and wet (it rained five times). At 445 miles, the route was a little shorter than usual but it was ranked as the fourth most difficult out of 37 in terms of the hills. Contrary to the opinions of those who have never been there, the great majority of Iowa is definitely not flat. I had my usual good time. I confess that after this long RAGBRAI is probably the one thing in my life I know how to do best, even more than brewing. |

I think I've seen a pic of this before, but never a 'write-up'. For you ragbrai riders, perhaps a US version could be built over the course of the next year? http://www.bierbike.de/ueber-das-bierbike.html |
