At what ratio should one substitute maltodextrin for dextrin malt? If I want to sub out half a pound of dextrin malt for maltodextrin, how much would I use? |

Dextrine malt yields about 33 p/p/g. Maltodextrine yields 46 p/p/g. Doing the math: 33 / 46 * 0.5 = 0.36 pounds, or about 6 ounces of maltodextrine for 1/2 pound of dextrine malt. |

Well, Chris, don't take those numbers to the bank just yet. I forgot to account for a typical mash efficiency. Assuming you get a 75% yield from mashing the dextrine malt: (33 * 0.75) / 46 * 0.5 = 0.27 pounds, or about 4 ounces of maltodextrine for 1/2 pound of dextrine malt. Arrrrgh, I hate it when that happens. |
