Over the years I've periodically looked at several of the newgroups about beer (not brewing, but just beer in general) and they are all terrible. I'm talking about rec.food.drink.beer, alt.beer or whatever. They have little activity mostly because they're unmoderated or poorly moderated, I guess, and are full of spammers and jerks who have nothing better to do but give other people crap. Anybody know of a good group with decent activity that just likes to discuss all things beer? I know we get into some good discussions on this group about lots of beer related things - not just brewing - but I don't know that this is really the appropriate place to be posting about the latest commercial beer you tried last night. But, there should be a place where you can do just that - without putting up with the crap. Miker |

They're not newsgroups, but beeradvocate.com and ratebeer.com have some beer discussion features. Of course you have to deal with a certain amount of snobbery and sometimes misinformation, but that's true of almost any discussion. |

Thanks, Bill I'll check these out. I read rec.crafts.brewing, but once again I would consider this mostly a homebrewing group, although just as on this board there are plenty of non-brewing beer related posts. Guess the real question comes down to whether the majority of members feel its appropriate to discuss non-brewing but still beer-related topics on a board that was designed mainly for homebrewing topics. I personally have no problem with that, not sure that everyone else feels the same. Guess I was mostly just wanting to rant about the state of some of these other beer newsgroups. The trolls can really ruin things for the rest of us. We're lucky to have such a great discussion board here. (Thanks, Pat) |
