I just noticed the Northern Brewer add that is usually at the top of the board has been replaced by a "This Space for Rent" message. What's up with that? |

They saw the On Topic thread and that did it for them. Who can blame them? You should all be ashamed of yourselves. |

I would think the Tax thread would have scared them more. I would think they are lobbying for higher taxes on packaged goods. I may be wrong but I think that is one of the reasons that brewing and wine making is so popular in Canada. "You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least, you need a beer." -- Frank Zappa

You're right, Paul. The high taxes on beer (even domestic swill is about $10 a sixpack) and wine encourage homebrewing and winemaking in Canada. There are at least a dozen BOPs and WOPs within a 45 minute drive of my house. But unfortunately these operations (they satisfy the letter of the law by doing all the work and letting the customer come in and pitch the yeast) siphon off the bottom end of the market. There are very few all-grain homebrewers, for example. (Message edited by BillPierce on April 28, 2005) |

Let's face it, the sponsors are good folks but typical small businesspeople in basically a hobby market with a very low profit. Advertising costs (which is what sponsosrhip is) are significant to them, and they are slow to pay unless they have to. It means poor Pat has to play beggar and nag on occasion. |
