I'm looking to pick up a couple of these. My preferred online retailer has them, and also has some "replacement parts" for them...namely 8mm & 12mm spouts (I'm guessing the faucet comes with a 10mm). And also a non-rotating level kit...apparently the faucet comes with a rotating handle lever. My questions for you all: What is the advantage of getting the different diameter spouts? How do they affect the pour? And is the rotating handle annoying? Does it just spin around? I've got my kegerator in a corner, so there isn't any reason to need the handles to rotate... Thanks Cheers matt |

With my Ventmatics the bigger spouts caused a bubble to form in the center of the stream causing significant foaming unless I double pumped the handle to interrupt the flow for a split second. Replacing them with the smaller spouts cured the problem. |

dh- Do you know what the diameter of the problematic spouts were? I would assume that Ventmatics shipped with the same 10mm spout as the Shirron...but...I don't know? Thanks Cheers matt |

Matt, My Ventmatics originally came with 12mm spouts . . I went all the way to 8s and the prob went away. 10mm might have worked, but I didn't want to take a chance! |

I've got 5 Ventmatic faucets and dhacker's right, the larger spouts don't pour without significant foaming. They are made for higher carbonated (higher pressure) beers that can be pushed out quickly. The smaller spouts are made for low pressure, low carbonated beers. But I found the small spouts work the best. |

when you order the ventmatics, can you specify which size? I therefore assert my patriotic prerogative not to know this material. I'll be out on the playground." -- Calvin

Bob, Don't know . . When I got mine it was during the Ventmatic "Crisis" and I took what I could get. It wasn't mentioned as an option then, but with the Shirron faucets now, maybe you can specify. |

This is the information that I received from Ventmatic re: spout sizes and application:
| Beer Co2/Volumes | 1.8 | 1.9 - 2 | 2 - 2.3 | 2.3 - 2.4 | 2.5 - 2.7 | 2.8 - 3.0 | 3.1 + | | Spout Size I.D. | 8 mm | 9 mm | 10 mm | 11 mm | 11.75 mm | 12 mm | 12.5 mm | | Spout Pour Speed | Very High | High | Medium High | Medium | Standard | Med-Low | Low | I ordered sets of each size and as had been noted - size does matter.. I hope this helps.. |

That does indeed help Paul. Thanks, and thanks to everybody else for the comments. AFAIK, the ventmatics are now gone and the patents/process has been taken over by Shirron. The online retailer I use (northern brewer) does not appear to offer a choice of spouts with purchase, but they do offer 8mm & 12mm replacement spouts. I guess I need to email them and find out what it comes equipped with originally. Cheers matt |

FWIW, I heard from Northern Brewer and their Shirrons ship with 11.75mm spouts. I'm assuming this is the case from all retailers. Cheers matt |

Does anyone know the e-mail address of Mike Rotert of Shirron? He occasionally posts messages here and likely could answer questions about the available spout diameters and whether it might be possible to make substitutions at purchase time. |

Ken from Northern brewer sent him an email for me...but no direct contact...Ken was actually checking to see if he had all those other spout sizes available...not whether you could made subs. Besides the 11.75 standard spout, NB sells 8mm and 12.5mm(not 12mm as I had said). I don't know that 7 different sizes would be necessary, but it sounds like at least a small and large would be useful. Cheers matt |

I guess that explains why I couldn't find that page while searching for "shirron faucets" there is no mention of faucets on the website! Cheers matt |

Shirron's website (http://www.shirron.com) is just a shell under construction, but Mike's e-mail address is listed (mrotert@shirron.com). I'm sure he wouldn't mind me posting it here. |

Naw, really that chart that Paul posted is about all I needed to know...Paul, please thank the person that originally gave that to you for me! Cheers matt |

Good stuff guys. MY Christmas present last year was a three tap tower which came with standard faucets. I figured I'd be pushing my luck with SWMBO if I asked for forward seals right off the bat, so once I get the bar built and the tower installed I'll start slowly replacing them one by one. This is all good info on the spout id's that I never knew about. Does this info apply to the Perlicks as well in case I get them? |

Sorry for the delay in answering this.... Yes, we carry many different spout sizes, but many of the shops weren't interested in carrying all of the sizes. Northern Brewer carries the 8mm spout and 12.5mm spout. I keep a range of spouts at my keg fridge and swap them out depending on what style I am serving. These aren't required modifications, just other options. If anyone has questions about the faucets, don't hesitate to contact me at mrotert@shirron.com I'll do my best to help you out!! Cheers! |
