Anyone out there drink this local Northern Virginia beer? I ask because it has a taste I find odd. Almost like a hay-like flavor. Is this intentional? If so is it from the grain (and which). I don't think its an infection or anything because I can pick it up both in bottle and tap.
Just wondering.

I’ve had about 6 pints of the stuff in the ten years I’ve been in DC. Although I haven’t had it recently, I definitely have it filed away under the “Aqua-toberfest” school of American lagers that look tasty but don’t make much of an impression in the mouth.
That said, the stuff they used to serve in their Alexandria pub was pretty good, especially their alt and heffewiezen. |

I was not aware that Dominion had a pub in Alexandria; I thought their only pub was at the brewery in Ashburn. They do contract brew for some local restaurants. Here is their description of their lager
"Our best selling lager beer, Dominion Lager is brewed with four types of malted barley: German pilsner, Munich, Carapils, & Caramel. The bittering hops are Perle and Hallertau from the Yakima Valley in Washington state. The aromatic hops are domestic Tettnang, German Hallertau Hersbrucker, & Czech Saaz. This combination, along with a classic German lager yeast and a long, low temperature lagering process results in a mild, smooth, complex, & flavorful brew. In 1997, Dominion Lager won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival. Widely available in bottle and on draught. ABV:5.4%" |

A hay like flavor is quite common from German pilsner malt. I like the flavor a lot. |
