I'm building a stir plate for a 2L Erlenmeyer flask. In my search for a magnetic stir bar, I find there are many choices. What size/type should I be using? Any suggestions on suppliers? Also, is it OK to build my stir plate in a metal enclosure? Will it affect the ability to spin the bar? Thanks, Tony (Message edited by tonymaud on April 23, 2009) |

Check this out, it looks like he uses a 1 1/8 inch stirbar http://www.stirplates.com/index.htm For the price he is asking I probably would buy rather than build. |

That seems like a reasonable deal. IIRC I paid about $45 for my used stir plate on eBay, including shipping. |

If you come across any dumbell shaped stir bars let me know where? I'd like to get some so I can use my growlers and 1 gal jug on the stirplate. Their convex bottoms make the bar and X stirers I have jump off the magnet. |

I think I've seen them there before but starting at $70 for 10 I'll have to pass. Now it I could find them in smaller quantities like the other styles I'd order some. |
