All,
I've been out of touch with the homebrew scene for nearly 5 years. Some of the reliable suppliers of hops and other ingredients have changed or are gone.

I am looking for a reliable source for whole Saaz (authentic stuff grown there) and hopefully some whole Hall. Hersbrucker as well. I would consider pellets as a way to improve freshness, but my system needs some whole leaf hops to create a filter bed during runoff. Any suggestions on where to look? I would appreciate any leads you can think of.

Cheers,
Joe

Being a lover of hops, it is strange to me that I do not really care for the taste of saaz. It's a bummer. Not a big galena fan either.

Good thing there are so many varieties to choose from these daze !

I like hopdirect too.

Here's a funny bit from Hops Direct's page-

German Tettnanger- $17/lb

US Tettnanger- $38/lb

I know it's probably based on the supply, but it struck me as funny.

The German Tetts are probably lower in AA's

I just tried a lager I racked to secondary and took out a 2 liter sample to carb up and try.
wow, gotta love that Sazz.

Thanks guys. I called Freshops today and confirmed that theirs were indeed grown in Czech-land.

These will be the basis for my Oberon clone. Thanks for your input.

The German ones are lower, but not half as much (3.5% vs. 5.5% IIRC). Even on a $/AA basis the German ones are cheaper.
