I was going to brew tomorrow, but I think that April Fools was a good day to brew up a clone. The brewday went fantastically well. Started at 9:30, mashed in at 10:30, pitched WILDLY fermenting starter (big batch of yeast from earlier cake) at 1:30, done with cleanup at 2:45. Missed my target OG by 1 point (boo hoo!). After drinking the hydrometer sample, I have to say it was the most delicious unfermented brew I have made. All that delicious cascade flavor ... mmmmmmmm. 65% efficiency 1.054 OG 37ish IBU 10lbs. 2-row 1.5lbs. crystal 60 0.30oz magnum (16.8AA) @60min 0.75oz perle (6.5AA) @ 30min. 1.25oz. cascade (6.7AA) @10min 2.00oz. cascade at flame out |

Good deal, Roger. I think that cascade-hopped wort tastes best out of the OG hydrometer sample, too - sort of like drinking sweetened grapefruit juice. A couple of hours ago I tasted the hydrometer sample of a 1.040ish scotch ale I just finished brewing (~29=0 IBUs). Yucchh. The yeast (WY1338) can only make that sweet crap taste better - I sniffed the starter and it smelled way better than the wort. |
