Living here in beer "hell", I finally got my hands on Orval, and the Westmalle Tripel. I haven't tried the Westmalle yet, but am tasting the Orval now. This is different from anything I've tasted before. I absolutely love it!! I wish this stuff wasn't so expensive! It costed me a little under 5 bucks. I'll probably try the Westmalle Tripel tomorrow night. What's it like? If I like it even half as much as this Orval I'll be happy. Now, I just need to make the 55 mile trek to the "non beer hell" liquor store more often. |

Sorry for the double post. It didn't come up on the board the first time I posted. |

Here are two places you might check for other opinions on the Westmalle Tripel: http://www.ratebeer.com/Beer/westmalle-tripel/2204/ http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/208/646/ Both Orval and Westmalle Tripel are among the Belgian beers with the highest IBUs, so these, along with saisons, are good places for hop lovers to start exploring Belgian styles. If you find the hop character too restrained you're probably a hophead. |

I posted earlier but it must have gotten lost... Why drive 55 miles when you can brew your own Belgians! I do all the time and love them. Very economical too. |
