I have an APA fermenting away which uses Columbus and Centenial as bittering hops and Cascade for flavor and aroma. I have some Columbus left over and thought about using them to dry hop instead of buying more Cascades. Has anyone tried this. Will the Columbus overpower the Cascade?

"Has anyone tried this."

Uh...the famous Denny Conn RyePa is dry hopped with Columbus.

I think the Cascade/Columbus combo would be awesome!

From the hop union book.
Originally bred for its alpha value, it has also
become popular for its oil profile. Great for dry
hopping.

Yeah, I've dry hopped with Columbus a few times...

Also, I made an all FWH IPA using nothing but Columbus. I thought it was outstanding....
LIfe begins at 60...1.060, that is.

Columbus is a potent dryhop that has a tendency to dominate other dryhops if you don't adjust the proportions, but if you like Columbus, that's a good thing.

Duh!

I had the Columbus left over from the DC RIPA I made a couple of months ago. BTW, it turned out great, as usual.

Thanks guys. I'll start with 1/4 ounce in the secondary and go from there.

I like Columbus for dry hops. They seem similar to cascades, maybe less citrus-like, IMO. cheers, tim

Hey Tim, speaking of sharing recipes. Is your all Columbus recipe you refer to your 1492? Could you share as well?
