This is my first year's harvest (Cascade & Willamette). Did I harvest at the right time? There's not a lot of lupulin, and the hop smell is not very strong. Mayby it will get stronger as they dry?

Hi Dirk,
This is my first year for hops as well and I have been struggling with the same issue...."is it time to harvest".... I really thought my cascades would produce larger cones, but they are the same size as you show in you pictures, and right about the same condition, so I am picking them all this weekend. My Nugget on the other hand has cones that are 4 times bigger than the cascades, but still quite green. Take one of your cones and smash it between your fingers and you should get the nice aroma you are looking for. |

they look small, but they also look ripe to my untrained eye. My prima donna (dwarf first gold type) hops are starting to get bigger. I still think they need a good 2-3 weeks in the mid south west of England after an incredible non-summer of rain and cold.
I've also only had about 3 ripe tomatoes so far... |
