Next Meeting:
The next meeting is on Saturday, May 4 and is separated into two parts. The first portion is the AHA Big Brew Day at Denny Conns, located at 91557 Poodle Creek Rd, Noti and starts at 9:00 AM. The second is a Cinco de Mayo party at Kent and Janies, located 25823 Tanya Lane and starts at 5:00 PM (see below for more information about both events).
And Now a Word from President Robin Chitwood:
April 8th was the technical meeting at Russ and Amber Kazmierczaks.
Denny Conn demonstrated batch sparging, a simpler grain rinsing process
that takes about half an hour off the brew day and no more matching inflow
to outflow. After that Russ showed us how to can wort for future yeast
starters. Thanks Russ and Amber for hosting the meeting.
The intrepid beer travelers will depart for San Francisco on Thursday May 25th for a weekend of big city brews. Anyone whos going and still has questions about transportation call Robin at 342-2397. Russ will provide maps of the itinerary. Theres still room for a couple more on the bus for anyone who wants to go but hasnt made arrangements.
July 5th, 6th, and 7th are the dates of the summer barbeque at Clark Creek Campground. There will be big fun in the forest.
A planning meeting will be held for this event on Friday May 17th at 6: 30 PM at Karen and Robins house, 2656 Potter. Afterwards we will head up to The Highlands Brew Pub for beers. The July barbeque is a big event and we want to maximize the potential for pleasure. That will require that a few things be planned ahead of time. Please come to this meeting and contribute your ideas.
For those who are thirsty in June dont forget the annual Eugene pub
crawl. Details are sketchy right now but we hope to know a little more
after the May planning meeting.
Cheers - RC

ASTA
LA VISTA BABY!! KENT
Big Brew Day
By Denny Conn
Saturday May 4 is the date for the AHA sponsored Big Brew, when homebrewers
all over the world get together to see how much beer we can brew in a single
day. For the fourth year, Denny is hosting a Big Brew site
and would like to invite any interested CBS members to come on out and
brew! There are 2 official AHA recipes (available at www.beertown.org),
or you can brew whatever you like. After the event, results are sent
to the AHA and tallied up for the worldwide total. The event begins
at 9 AM, with the synchronized worldwide toast at 10 AM. If you're
interested in attending or need more info contact Denny by Sat. April
27, either by calling 998-8580 or emailing denny@projectoneaudio.com.
Let him know if
you're going to be brewing and if you need anything special besides
water. Non brewing attendees welcome (but bring more beer!).
Judges Wanted
On May 18th, 2002 @ 9:30AM, the Heart of the Valley Homebrew club is holding the 20h consecutive Annual Oregon Homebrew Festival in Corvallis, Oregon (www.hotv.org/fest2002/). This is one of the largest and longest running homebrew competitions/festivals in the country. Featuring Eugene's own Stealhead Brewery Head Brewer and President of Oregon's Brewers Guild, Jamie Floyd as the special guest speaker
This event is open to all people not just homebrewers and if you are interested in judging; experienced or not, you can register on-line (see link above). This is a great opportunity to meet and possibly judge with some of the most experienced beer tasters in the nation. Just think you might be able judge with the likes of Fred Eckert, John Mier, or even Chris Studach.
It is great chance to confirm and expand your tasting skills and meet great people. If your inexperienced dont worry because you will most likely be paired with one or two BJCP judges or very experienced homebrewers.
In the past food and drink has been provided free of charge to all those who judge.
Shirts for Sale:
If you are interested in a club T-shirt ($10 each), please contact Steve
