Last Meeting: [by Matt Jarvis]

Many thanks to Chip and Kristina for being such gracious hosts for the tech meeting on Counter Pressure Bottling. The meeting was well attended, great beer was flowing along with some wonderfully good eats, and Chip’s demonstration of the technique for filling bottles straight from the keg was very informative for those of us that hadn’t seen it before. And the free samples he let us take with us were quite enjoyable too….  Thanks Chip and Kristina!

Next Meeting:

November 29th (Saturday) - The Unofficial World Champion Beer Drinker Pub Crawl:

From Chris Studach: I still don't have a real agenda, but if interested parties would call me (681.9764) the day before, or morning of, I will clue them in on a start point.  It will just "go" from there.

December 13th (Saturday) 7pm - Xmas Party

This will be at Chris & Edie’s, house, 220 E. 37th Ave, Eug.  (681.9764) on Dec. 13th, start at 7pm.  Attendees should bring food and beer to share, as ususal.  This isn't a full-blown potluck dinner, but we'd like it to be a pot-luck hors'durvees party. Keep it simple.

We will have a white elephant gift exchange for anyone who wishes to participate.  In order to do so, bring a wrapped gift to be collected at the door.  We are planning on making this fairly quick, so the rules may be modified from what some may typically be used to. The gift should definitely be a "white elephant" type, and suitable to our particular club personality.  This is meant to be fun, not serious.

January 24th (Saturday) Noon – 4pm – 2nd Annual Florence Winter Folkfest Homebrew Competition. Entry forms will be available in December and January from Matt Jarvis, at the Florence Events Center.  Paisanos Pizza Deli, and Salmonberry Naturals.  Call 997-8385 for more information. We need judges for this fun event so please see Matt if you can help out!

And Now a Word from President Robin Chitwood:

Tuesday January 6th is the date for the annual planning meeting where we elect officers and set up our agenda for the coming year. Our usual hangout for this event is not available due to a change of conditions at West Brother’s. So unless a more suitable place becomes available it will be at my house, 2656 Potter at 6:30pm.

There are about a half dozen social events that fill our calendar each year. That leaves plenty of time for technical meetings and beer style evenings. Our technical meetings have been interesting and very well attended. They covered malt crushing, yeast propagation, mead making, batch sparging and most recently, counter pressure bottle filling. Our style night meetings have been a revival of the type of meeting we used to have when Scott Weech was club president. Those meetings give us an opportunity to show off our brewing skills, promote appreciation of different beer styles and encourage brewing to style. The style night theme also has the potential of creating club-only competitions.

The list of potential themes for technical meetings is almost limitless. And, with as many beer styles as there are we could go years without repeating a style night. I’ve heard some really good ideas during this past year for possible events for next year.  If you are a new member and would like to host an event or offer an idea, this meeting is the best opportunity during the year to do so. Continuing members be sure to attend and get your events on the calendar. The dates and times don’t need to be carved in stone at this point. We can rough out the agenda with approximate dates if necessary. And don’t forget to pay your dues at this meeting. I’m really looking forward to another good year of brewing. Cheers, RC.
