This is rather Sad Greg Noonan has passed away I hate to be the first to post this. I went to the Vermont Brew Pub for lunch today, and the pub was closed with a lone sign standing out front: Greg Noonan March --- 1951 - Oct. 11th 2009. I was told he had passed during the night. This is a horrible loss. My thoughts go out to his family. http://beeradvocate.com/forum/read/2327298 |

Man, that is terrible. His book is a valued part of my library. I had always wanted to go up and visit him. A toast to him and condolences to his friends and family. |

This is truly a tragedy for the brewing world. He contributed so much to us all. I will hoist a pint or 5 to his honor tonight. I am not worthy! He has taught me sooo much! |

His "New Brewing Lager Beer" helped me become a better brewer. RIP. |

This is very tragic. Much too young to leave us at only 58. I learned a lot from NBLB. Go gently Greg. You will be remembered kindly for a very long time. |

Truly sad. I have the book and haven't read it yet. I think I will now. |

I'm saddened. Greg Noonan was one of the first "scientific" craft brewers. He did a lot to demystify decoction mashing. And yes, 58 seems very young to pass, especially to me. |

What a shame. New Brewing Lager Beer is a consistent go-to reference for me when brewing. A very well written resource. He'll certainly be missed. |

I'm very sad to hear that Greg passed away at such a young age. He was a great source of knowledge for me during my early brewing days. Definately will hoist a few in his honor. |

His was probably the second or third book I read on brewing back in '88. IIRC I met him at the '89 Conference. "Phil's Lauter Tun" was inspired by a comment he made about the need for a commercially produced home lautering system. |

So sorry to hear this. Vermont Pub & Brewery was always a favorite haunt anytime I was up that way. I sat and enjoyed a beer with Greg on more than one occasion there. His books taught me great deal. I shall pull out my Vermont Pub & Brewery T-shirt, and pint glass and raise a toast to Greg this evening. And, yes, Bill, 58 seems way too young to pass away, for me as well |

Sad news indeed. His book opened up a whole new understanding of the brewing, and especially mashing process for me. It also brought the beforehand unthinkable, idea of brewing lager into practice. I've never met him or drunk any of his beers but I feel that the homebrewing world has lost one of its stars. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. |

I was in the Rock Bottom in Boston yesterday afternoon. The brewer, Scott, came out, called out to everyone in the bar to get their attention, and told them who Greg Noonan was and that he had passed away. He said kind words and then asked us all to raise a toast. A classy act, I thought. I told him so afterwards. |

Sorry to hear that. I've never been to the brewery, but always wanted to go, if I ever was in the area. His book is one of my go-to books, too. I'll raise a pint in his honor tonight at our HB club meeting. |
