a year or so ago there was a lot of discussion pretty favorably recommending a specific scale on ebay or amazon. i need one for weighing grain from 1 lb to 50 or so accurately. i already have a good 1-1500 grams scale for the small stuff. thanks

I bought the Ultraship 55 after reading the thread which Bill has referenced. I've seen it on Ebay and Amazon. It has worked fine, and as Scott said, the batteries seem to last forever.

There's a companion thread about turning off the backlight feature (it's in the manual) in order to avoid an odd problem with flickering and erratic readings: http://hbd.org/discus/messages/43688/43786.html

As far as I'm concerned, backlighting is not needed and turning it off greatly extends the battery life. As Jonathan suggests, I'm on the same set of "C" batteries I installed when I bought the scale nearly two years ago. I'd call this product a winner.

Add another happy customer of the Ultraship 55 to the list here. I don't remember what I paid for it, but whatever it was it was money well spent.

the herd mentality of the group was hilarious. I guess i'm the slowest member of the herd cause i just ordered mine. unfortunatly you buggers drove up the price of the scale, best deal i could find was $26.93 delivered, seems it was around $10 cheaper a year ago
