I managed to post this incorrectly below. Here's the question in it's own 'conversation.'
I know this must have been asked a gazillion times, but I just moved (to Pasadena, CA) and broke in a new aluminum brewpot (smaller, for stove-top use) with the local tap. Water line down is jet-black. I've had distinct boil lines before, on Al and SS, but this is really dark. Any local brewers know what the offending mineral might be? Mg?
