Here in New Mexico we are doing an Identic-Ale project with all of pro brewers and home brewers making the same beer with the same ingredents. We have 40 homebrewers and 9 probrewers all doing the same thing. Systems and H2O will differ but that should be it. All of the ingredents for both pro and homebrewers were donated by Whitelabs, Hop Union and Briess. All we had to pay was shipping. Pretty cool, I had to pay $5.00 for a 10 gallon batch. The Oregon Brew Crew has some similar programs. Sometimes the ingredients are donated, sometimes the club pays for them. We will pay for the ingredients to a 10 gallon batch if the brewer brings 5 of it to a meeting (usually, that means its related to a specific style topic). Widmer pays for the ingredients for all beers submitted to the Colaborator competition. The brewer need only submit a six pack. We do the same for our malt, hop or yeast experiments.
Getting ALL of the ingredients supplied for free is awesome.
