Recently brewed a 5-gallon batch of IPA , one of b3's kits. On a whim - and without okaying the idea either here or in one of the many books within arm's reach at the time - I decided to use a pair of my wife's (clean) stockings to boil my hops.

I now have five gallons of absolutely flavor-free beer. No hop taste, aroma or bitterness whatsoever. Can this be fixed? And - and this almost seems too stupid to ask, at this point - are panty hose a bad substitute for nylon mesh bags? Why?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My suggestion would be to try finding some hop alpha acid oil for bittering and some serious dry hopping for flavor/aroma. I have no idea why this would happen as a result of panty hoes, used to use these when i first started brewing and got alot of hop bitterness/flavor/aroma

Not that this helps, but when I tried the same thing those were the exact results I got as well.
