We have a standard fitting tap for our tap handles (currently using a Sleeman's handle). My friend and I would like to have something a bit more interesting and we were thinking that a spent 0.50 cal casing would be pretty neat as a tap handle. Two questions: 1) Would the bore on the .50 cal casing fit, or be modifyable? 2) Anyone know where us Canucks can get a spent .50 cal caseing? Attempted murder. I mean, really, what is that? Try gun and ammunition supply stores. They might have ones for reloaders. |

Bill that would be an otherwise decent tip, but here in Canada you are not even alowed to look at plans for the .50 cal, let alone buy rounds for reloaders. Attempted murder. I mean, really, what is that? You don't win a Nobel Prize for Attempted Chemistry

The 20mm rounds are bigger and more impressive. . .or even the 30mm. . . .50cal rounds are too small to be a good tap handle. |

Indeed it seems to be so. I've not actually seen a 50 cal round before. We're pretty limited as to what we can aquire up here. Attempted murder. I mean, really, what is that? You don't win a Nobel Prize for Attempted Chemistry

Jon, have you tried the army/navy stores. They sell lots of do dads like that. I don't think the new gun laws forbid spent ammo, especially if you are modifing it for an alternate purpose. |

20 mm casings are easy to come by in canada...just ask around and I'm sure you'll find some. The Cdn Forces uses 20 mm regularly (F18). If you know someone with a lathe you can turn your own...very simple job even for an amatuer. 50 cal is pretty small for a tap handle Bellybuster Bob www.bellybuster.netfirms.com

I made an opener from a huge casing....I centered a cheapo bottle opener inside the casing and filled it with epoxy. If you want to use one as a tap handle, fill it with bondo or JB Weld. Put a threaded insert in before it sets and screw it on your faucet. |

Hood ornaments off of old cars are another good tap handle. You could also take about 6 30.06 shells and make a kind of stick figure out of them. A bottle cap head, a few beers, some EMPTY shell cassings, a few more beers, some solder, a torch, a few more beers! Hey, how about some pics of some of the best home made tap handles! That would be another great contest idea! David |

Not to plug a business, but try goldnuggetsurplus dot com. Small local shop here in the geographic center of Nowhere, Kentucky. He had some decorative shell casings around his shop. Looked like the kind of guy that can find what you want. If he can't get it, try searching for surplus stores in Fayetteville, NC or Killeen, TX. NAYy, JASC. Tobias |

While I think that 20mm shell would be cool as a tap handle, I really like Grant's leftmost one... http://hbd.org/cgi-bin/discus/board-profile.cgi?action=view_profile&profile=punk ndrublic-users |

Made a tap handle from a spike mule deer antler. Now I want three more. Cut it square, drill and tap. Pun not intended. Spike antlers are relatevly straight. |
