...with a new record attendance for this year's national competition.

Just finished registering all the beers (one man job), and it's 86 beers submitted to the nationals! Hehe, and lo an behold, with this record attendance, American Pale Ales and IPA's have to get their own class and judged separately from the other light ales, like Wit, Strong Bitter and Saison. Crazy, I know.

Yes, it's still a very small hobby here. But growing steadily. Last year's record attendance was 67 beers...

Just don't try to judge all 86 by yourself, okay? That's NOT a one man job!

I once judged 57 entries (over a period of eight hours) at a competition that was woefully short of judges. I kept the samples *very* small in order to keep from getting buzzed, but palate fatigue was certainly a problem at the end.

57, WOW. I remember when I had to judge 12 barleywines one year. Tried to keep the samples small as well. But palate fatigue as well as that feeling of light headedness was there.

Doesn't sound ideal :-) I'm dividing the beers into 5 sessions this time, so it should be doable even for these relatively inexperienced judges.
