UKULELE!!!! I've played guitar, bass, etc. for 45 years but recently picked up my first ukulele, and I've gotta tell ya that it's almost too much fun! Pour a pint and work on "When the Red Red Robin Comes Bob Bob Bobbin' Along"....the perfect stress reliever! |

I guess its kind of like my plan when I turn 50 to start playing golf....I figure by then I better learn while I am young enough still to pick it up, so that when I get too old for hunting and fishing, I still will be able to have an outdoor hobby. I suppose if you shave your beard, cut your hair, and don a Captain's hat, Denny, you probably look a lot like this.....

Good to see ya back, PTA! Chumley, I dig the hat, but I'm no Arthur Godfrey! Just learned Monty Python's "Lumberjack Song" and now I'm working on "Stairway to Heaven"! |

I suspect I'd need at least a few beers before I could handle hearing "Staiway to Heaven" played on the ukulele. (Message edited by BillPierce on July 16, 2009) |

Even better.... UKELELE BANJO! Annoy the neighbors! Frighten the cats! Get people talking about "that guy, y'know, with the little banjo?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yG2OB3rqW0 (catch the solo at 1:56) Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QToS2ulHG3A (Chumley -- My wife and I have threatened for years that we would learn saxophone for our mid-life crises. The kids have begged us to do something less annoying instead, like spend their inheritance on a red sports car.) (Message edited by PaulHayslett on July 16, 2009) |

When I saw the title I was prepared for something like... Blackened Mahi-Mahi sandwiches with an avocado relish and a side of grilled artichokes with a Carolina style vinegar sauce... but not a Uke |

Creamed herring and any sour beer do not go well together. What is wrong with saxophones? They are the Listermann family instrument. I have four. |

The Listermann family must sound better than the Hayslett family. We sound like a flock of geese with bad brakes. Honk...squeak...honk...squeak.... |

What is wrong with saxophones? They are the Listermann family instrument. This I would have never guessed.....I was almost certain that the Listermann family instrument was the tuba. |

This I would have never guessed.....I was almost certain that the Listermann family instrument was the tuba. I thought it was extinct Russian Oak Barrel Drums. (Sorry, I just had to). |

Scott, my daughter plays drums. Put the kit in the basement and insulate above it. It won't be "quiet" in the house, but it will be "better". The neighbors will thank you (mine do). ChriSto, I know you aren't in The Wiyos because you are from GA. The Wiyos are from just where you'd expect a bluegrass/western swing band to be from -- Brooklyn, NY! |

What goes great with beer? I would have guessed.... More beer... or pizza. Only after many many beer and many more guesses than I could have ever imagined would I have guessed a Ukulele.... :-) |

I used to play the tuba when I was in high school if that counts for anything. Now, I just pick up my 5 string Ibanez SDGR bass. I can't play at all unless I have at least one pint. By the time I get to three pints, I'm convinced I'm as good as or better than Jaco Pretorius! |

Paul, Good advice but... Basement? The water table in Houston is about post-hole deep. No, I'm just going to have to deal with it. I had a lot of fun as a band nerd. Now it is his turn to have the fun and my turn to suffer (as I'm sure my parents did with my trombone). edit: Oh, and lately while brewing, I've been enjoying wholesome and polite conversation with long-tailed mammals of the Muroidea family.
