on December 5 the START Treaty expired! Here is to continuing to keep everyone dumber than a box of rocks and apathetic about real national security issues. |

I'm old enough to recall firsthand a portion of what is now considered history, so I'm not easily impressed (or depressed). But I have to agree that we seem to have sunk to a new low in terms of the public's unawareness of what matters and distraction by what doesn't. The 24/7 on-demand news cycle has only made things worse. The nation--and the world--seem ungovernable and unmanageable. I realize this is an old tune, but what am I supposed to say?! |

Actually Bill the nation and the world is very governable. That is the problem. Its easy to govern persons that are content and happy. If you distract the public with silly issues you can pass legislation and ignore important issues that really matter without a whisper from anyone. Unfortuately in regards to this issue the Democrats and Republicans are in full agreement hence the problems we face now as a nation and a society. |

Arms treaties aren't worth the paper they are printed on. All they are is a way to placate the masses and lull them into a false sense of security. Show me a country who abides by an arms limitation treaty, and I will show you the loser in the next world conflict. And I agree with you Bill, "that we seem to have sunk to a new low in terms of the public's unawareness of what matters and distraction by what doesn't." We put Obama into office didn't we? |

"Wag the Dog" was written as satire, but becomes more like documentary for every passing day... |
