Occasionally some worthy points come from thoughtful conservatives, at least those whose purpose is not inflaming the listeners of right-wing talk shows: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/19/opinion/19douthat.html?src=me&ref=general |

Good op-ed. I'm getting older and hopefully wiser. I no longer look to one side for the answers. And I'm curious about the other side. If I disagree at my core to what they think, I want to know why they think it. After listening (may take a while to find the right communicator),usually I see their point. This article gives some backing to why conservatives despise affirmative action and distrust ivory towers. (Message edited by Nephi on July 20, 2010) |

I think that's more than you've ever said about the left, Bob. I agree with Nephalist....there is truth from both sides and inflammatory half truth from both sides in equal measure. FWIW, although I've frequently disagreed with Buchanan, I also find many of his points thoughtfully made even when I disagree. |

Bob, the emphasis is on "thoughtful" rather than "conservative" (or "liberal"), which matters far less than the first quality. Yes, occasionally I agree with Pat Buchanan. I think the point is well taken that part of the liberal/conservative divide is one of class. The diversity issue works both ways. |
