Jose and Carlos are panhandling at the freeway off ramp. Jose drives a Mercedes, lives in a mortgage free house and has a lot of money to spend. Carlos only brings in 2 to 3 dollars a day. Carlos asks Jose how he can bring home a suitcase full of $10 bills every day. Jose says, "Look at your sign." It reads: "I have no work, a wife & 6 kids to support" Carlos looks at Jose's sign. It reads: "I only need another $10.00 to move back to Mexico" |

The best panhandling sign I ever saw was when I lived near Tucson where there was a panhandler at every major intersection. This down-and-out-looking guy had a sign that said, "I won't lie to you. I really need a beer." I was in the opposite lane or I would have given him a buck or two just for being honest. |

I remember seeing a photo of a guy holding a sign that read something like this: "Booze and hookers ain't cheap. I need all the help I can get. Just look at me" "If ignorance is bliss, this lesson would appear to be a deliberate attempt on your part to deprive me of happiness, the pursuit of which is my unalienable right according to the Declaration of Independence. I therefore assert my patriotic prerogative not to know this material. I'll be out on the playground." -- Calvin
