I never spoke to George but I did see him and hear him speak at the MCAB in St. Louis a few years back. He seemed very approachable and helpful. It always seemed odd to me that a math professor would be so involved in brewing but I'm so glad he brought to the brewing community the time and effort to study beer making. He shared a lot of information via his publications and interviews to help people make better beer--to enjoy the fruits of their hobby.
It is truly sad to see him go. As a fellow brewer, his experience and expertise will be missed.
