Upcoming Competitions
The Guild is encouraging friendly competition aimed at increasing the number of
members homebrewing regularly, and also to enter our best efforts in national
competitions:
- May 2008: Extract Beers. Beers made with at least half their fermentables extract are allowed.
Bring yours to our April meeting!
- August 2008: Mead. We'll judge them at the July meeting to send our best to the AHA.
- October 2008: Imperial-anything Beers. Just make it BIG, and we'll
judge the best NYCHG entry to send in at our September meeting.
- Check Beertown.org for all Club-only AHA events.

National Homebrew Competition
Northeast Regional judging for the 1st Round of the National Homebrew Competition will be held the weekend
of April 25-27 at the Yards Brewery in Philadelphia.
Yards is located at 901 N. Delaware Avenue in Philadelphia. From the judge coordinator: We may do some
judging on Friday night for anyone who is available. While the details haven't been fully worked out expect
to start judging on Saturday AM at 9am, on Sunday at 12:00 and if we judge on Friday night it will be about
7:30pm. Details will be provided closer to the competition. This year we will be judging Cider in addition
to the Mead and Beer categories. Let me know which day(s) you will be available, what categories you want
to judge, do not want to judge and can't judge because you plan to enter those categories. We will make an
attempt to honor your requests if at all possible. Stewards are also needed.

Who We Are
The New York City Homebrewers Guild is the oldest homebrewing club in the
New York City area. Founded in 1987, the guild's main purpose was to give homebrewers a rest haven
to talk and learn about the aspects of making high quality hand-crafted beers and wines.
In the past 20 years, many guild members have moved on from homebrewing into commercial brewing
at various brewpubs and breweries.
The NYCHG now meets monthly at Burp Castle. At the meetings, the members listen to guest speakers,
taste hand-crafted beers not locally available, and of course, there's always homebrew!
Previous guest speakers include numerous commercial brewers, importers, distributors and authors.
Dedicated to the fine art of brewing quality beer, the Guild's main focus is to educate its
members and the public about the age-old craft of homebrewing. It also is dedicated to the
success of microbrewers, bars, and retailers providing hand-crafted beers to the public.
