Wanna have one of your own, eh?
There are a few options in creating a home page. All depend on your having an access provider that allows you to publish a page on the net. One such provider is O&E Online. Contact them to see if they serve your area.
- One method of developing your page is to 'surf around', looking at the document sources of pages that have features you like. This is pretty much how these pages came about. I do recommend that you pick up a reference book or two for those occassions when you encounter a feature you're just not sure how to use...
To do this you'll minimally require a word processor capable of producing flat-ascii files. Or, you can use a HTML processor such as:
- HTML Assistant Pro - I use this! Love it! Great user interface! (Working in it right now, as a matter of fact!)
- HoT MetaL - Too restrictive to an arbitrary standard. Will not recognize load these pages, even though (as you can tell) they are perfectly valid HTML documents. If you're a structure freak, this is the HTML editor for you!
- HTMLed - This is a close second to HTML Assistant. The version I have is slightly out of date, but the features are nice! They include "intelligent tag insert" and "remove HTML tags"!
- Macro/extension packages for your favorite word processor
Many useful editors can be obtained from the HTML Editor section of Stroud's Consummate Winsock Apps Page.
Some other editors available on the net which I have not tried:
Additional items that are very useful include photo/image processors, and a scanner.
- You can make use of some of the HTML-generating web pages. These are provided free-of-charge by their host web sites and are quite adequate for 'getting something up there'...
- Lastly, you can contract to have one made for you. They can be created entirely from scratch, or you can provide the concept, images, and text to be converted into HTML. Obviously, the former is the most expensive approach.
There are several such contractors out there. I am one of them. If you'd
like to discuss having a page created for you, e-mail me with the pertinent
information, and we can discuss terms...
As always: if a link is not functioning, or you have any comments, feel
free to send me email!
