This is Chris' and Jay's collection of dinosaur (Rawr!) pictures taken at the Dinosauria II display at The Detroit Zoo!

We visited the zoo in July for our kids' vacation activity (Mama and Daddy were busy trying to reclaim the basement, garage and closets from seven years of pack-ratting :-), and stopped into the Dinosauria II display. Very nicely done - even down to attempting to replicate some of the conditions of the various eras presented: steamy, sulfury landscapes to lush, tropical paradises. The animatronic (or reasonable facsimile thereof...) dinosaurs were pretty realistic, too, for their limited range of motion. Beats looking at static displays or collections of bones, in terms of shear entertainment value (after all: we want to learn, but we want to be entertained whilst doing it!)

I'm no expert on dinosaurs, but it appeared that the display was set up to progress from the dawn of the "terrible lizards" to the age of the giant mammals.

Really well done! If you ever find yourself wandering through The Detroit Zoo, be sure to stop by and see this display! The extra few-bucks-a-head to go through it will be money well spent! (In the meantime, you can peruse these pictures here. Eventually, I might even make a page out of this - currently, it is a method of storage and easy retrieval to allow Chris and Jay to view them without my having to translate them from the .cam format the Casio QV10a leaves them in...

See ya!
