Here is the mash tun viewed from directly overhead. The filter screen and plumbing can be clearly seen.

It connects with 1/2 inch copper tubing to the side wall rubber bung. I use a short piece of vinyl tubing to connect the copper tubing to a hose barb fitting which is inserted through the rubber bung and into the tubing. A tie wrap secures the vinyl tubing to the hose barb.

The hose barb fitting has a 1/2 NPT female port on it's other end which connects to a ball valve for liquor output.

Also visible is the dial thermometer probe and homemade bulkhead fitting.

This is the probe protector. It threads into the female bulkhead fitting threads shown in the view above.

It is easily made from a piece of copper tubing with a few holes drilled for better circulation and it slides into a 1/2 inch NPT to copper fitting. No solder, just pushed in and can be opened for cleaning.
