Sponsor the HBD
"Yes, I would be definitely interested in renewing
the
sponsorship! Believe me, it is a thoroughly symbiotic
relationship. I've never had people go out of their
way to say 'Thanks for advertising in Zymurgy',
but the HBD sponsorship has resulted in LOTS of
comments from customers."

Sponsor The HBD
Ensure continued availability of the HBD!
The current needs of the HBD are meager, but very
real. We left our last free host November 16, 2000 and are now on a
commercial DSL at one of the Janitor's home. The DSL line, electrical
expenses and additional equipment necessary to maintain the Digest and
its network connection are estimated at $200 to $300 per month in our
current configuration. Also, since we are now free of the restrictions
that come with living on someone else's network, we have plans to expand
the content provided by HBD.ORG.
You can gain exposure for yourself or your company by
sponsoring a portion of the HBD. All donations are put aside for the "care
and feeding" of the systems upon which the HBD resides, and are
publicly accounted for on the
HBD Ledger Page.
We have devised several levels of sponsorship, as
outlined below. To be fair to all sponsors, all levels except Masthead and
Page are displayed according to the amount over the required minimum is
received. For instance, a sponsor giving $249 for a link on the Sponsors
Page listing will have the top position in that list vs any donor giving
less. A sponsor giving $250 will have the lowest position on the display
ad portion of the page. Sponsors donating equal amounts will appear on the
page on a first-come, first-served basis. Any copy, including banners, to
be included on the page is the responibility of the sponsor.
Connectivity cost increase,
effective 10/2001:
Our ISP has increased our connectivity costs.
Therefor, the sponsorship thresholds are being increased commensurate with
the increase to our operating expenses. We have also been counting on dual
sponsorships to ensure the electircal costs are covered, too. The premium
sponsorship levels will be adjusted to accomodate these costs as well.
Those who have already reserved sponsorship for 2002 will not be affected
by this increase until renewal for 2003. The adjusted amounts are shown
below as preliminary, and still require approval by the HBD SC and we'd
like to discuss adjusted premium levels with current sponsors to ensure
their continued support at these levels. Amounts in RED are the proposed amounts.
Here are the available levels and their
descriptions:
- A link on the Sponsors Page sponsors list for at
least $120/yr Proposed amount: $135
As mentioned above, ads will be sorted by
donation amount. Highest
donation gets top position in list. Ads consist of your business or
organization name and URL and/or 800 number
- A display ad, similar in size to a banner ad,
with link to your site for at least $250/yr.Proposed
amount: $280
Ads will be sorted by donation amount. Highest
donation gets top position on page. Size of ad in kilobytes, height
and width will be limited. Banners appear closer to the top of the
page than the simple listing.
- A position on the rotating banner on the HBD home
page, at least
$400/yr. Proposed amount: $445
Ads will be weighted by donation amount. Highest
donation gets more impressions through the banner. The banner will be
visible at the top of the page on any windowed page accessible from
the HBD main page frame set (The majority of the HBD site is included
in this frame set). Ads will be 440w x 44h, 20K gif.
- SOLD FOR 2002!Your
company or organization's name, URL and/or
800 number in the header of the HBD itself for one year, and a position in
the rotating banner on the web page at least
$2400/yr. Proposed amount: $3000
This is
the crown jewel. Only one company or
organization will attain this exposure each year! When considering this
option, recall that the HBD is available in rec.crafts.brewing, on the
web, is archived in several different sites and is widely distributed by
other means! Note also that this level ensures one year of connectivity
for the Digest! (Since the header of the "printed" Digest is
static, increased levels will affect the weighting of
your banner in the rotation.) SOLD FOR
2002!
- Sold for 2002!Your
banner on the
HTMLized Digest gateway page
for one year, and a position in
the rotating banner on the web page at least
$2400/yr. Proposed amount: $3000
This is crown jewel number two! Readership of the
HTMLized Digest is quickly growing to rival that of the emailed version.
Add your company's exposure to that of the masthead sponsor! Note that
this level also ensures one year of connectivity for the Digest! (As with
the masthead sponsorship, increased levels will affect the weighting of
your banner in the rotation.) SOLD FOR
2002!
- Your company or
organization's name, URL and/or
800 number in the logon header of the HBD FTP server/archives for one
year, and a position in the rotating banner on the web page at least
$2400/yr. Proposed amount: $3000
The third major HBD.ORG-controlled means of
accessing the Digest - past AND present! The HBD FTP server is the portal
into the archives - one of the primary places newer brewers are referred
to, and a favorite amongst most experienced HBDers as well.
- Your company or organization's banner at the top
of any one of the HBD feature pages (excepting those managed off-site, or
those included above) for as long as that page endures on the server, plus
a position in the rotating banner for one year - at least
$2400. Proposed amount: $3000
That's right - a one-time donation of $2400, and
you have an enduring presence on the HBD site. (For an example of one such
sponsorship, see The HBD Memorial Page).
Of course, donations of amounts less than $120 will
gain an unlinked listing in the donors page.
Funds will be used for the development of
HBD.ORG, the maintenance of the HBD
servers and their internet connection (ISP, electricity costs), and will
allways be publicly
accounted for at The HBD Ledger Page.
We realize that advertising dollars are
important to your budget, and decisions like these must be made
carefully to ensure your advertising expectations are
met. Therefor, we've made statistics available for your reference. Select
Statistics from the menu to
the
right for more information.
For more information on sponsoring the HBD, please
contact the Digest Janitors at janitor@hbd.org.
If you've already made up your mind, send your
request and instructions along with a check
or money order made payable to Pat Babcock to:
HBD Server Fund
PO Box 871309

No matter which you choose, be sure to include a
note describing your desired level of sponsorship, contact information and any
copy necessary for your ad. We will contact you to obtain your banner ad
if applicable to the level of sponsorship you have selected.
Rates and conditions listed here are
effective 9/16/00 and are subject to change without
notice. Once you have donated towards an advertising option, your
rate is set for the year, where applicable. Additional funds submitted
following the initial donation, and not designated for another instance
of sponsorship will apply to boost your position in your chosen
level, excepting permanent page sponsorships. Where applicable, additional
amounts can cause your level to
change to the next higher level. Single instance, one year levels of
sponsorship (masthead, ftp, HTMLized) will be sold at auction
following the expiration of the current term. Highest bidder wins
position, with bidding starting at lowest amount applicable to level.
