---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 01 Feb 2010 07:20:00 -0500 From: "David Houseman" <david.houseman at verizon.net> Subject: RE: sparge water heater Mike, I used to do the same thing. But no need to keep the water at 167F for the time it takes to mash. Just heat the water to a higher temperature and let it fall to the desired temperature over that time it will be in the cooler. And 167 isn't the right temperature anyway. You need to take temperature losses into account. So heat to ~180oF and you'll have water at about 170F +/- going onto the top of your mash tun. Date: Mon, 1 Feb 2010 10:44:06 -0500 From: Danny Williams <danny at bubrew.org> Subject: Re: Sparge water heater Mike, I use a commercial bucket heater to heat sparge water, keep recirculating PBW hot, and make sodapop right in a corny keg. It did not come with a controllable thermostat, though, so I made a thermowell to hold the probe from a Ranco temp controller. Works a treat.
